Sneak Peek into Current Project

Butterfly Kisses

Afghanistan 2012
Violence – no matter where you are; the streets of Los Angeles, New York, Baghdad, Kabul, Tripoli or Mogadishu; it is the same. I can feel it, taste it, and hate what I must do. I dream of peace, love, quietly sitting in the forest listening to the trees soothing my soul. Reality: I will never have peace, and what I have become will never be known
but to a few who can look beyond the facade.

7 March 2004, Sunday

The day started at 0400. It was and is cold (30 degrees), wind blowing and, of course, sand everywhere. We set up a new access at the main entrance. We continue to get pretty good food and the morale is okay. But with the pressure of the schedule, the labor issues, being in Iraq- security, we all are concerned that our Phase 2 may not go. I am sitting in my room listening to a CD and getting ready to read. Tomorrow starts at 0400 again. Supposedly a crew started night work tonight, but I doubt it.

26 February 2004, Thursday 0230

Can’t sleep. Walked around for a while, the smell of gunpowder in the air. I heard a blast earlier but wasn’t sure. There was a car in the parking lot about 300 meters from our tent that was hit by a mortar. Helicopters are flying all night. Meeting with PM and other security guy, sounds good. We will see Friday when we go to the site.
My cell phone stopped working for some unknown reason. We had some time to go around in the Green Zone, saw some souvenirs I will get when I come back through at lunch at the Al Raazzer Hotel. Lots of gunfire marks on concrete walls and barriers.
Spoke with BooBoo- God I miss my family.
