The basics…
They’re not all gay. While the majority of queens might identify as gay, there are absolutely plenty out there that are totally straight; it’s an art form, not necessarily a declaration of sexual preference.
Drag queens don’t necessarily want to be women. If they wanted to be women then they would be considered more transgender. While there of course are trans queens out there, most of them are more into the crossdressing and art form than actually having the desire to be a women in their day to day.
Not everyone can be a queen. Anyone can take a shot at it, but you have to have that “it” factor; it requires a certain confidence, sassiness, and sexiness whether you’re rocking jeans and a t-shirt or a full ball gown and glitter lashes.
Shakespeare is said to have coined the phrase, “Dress Resembling A Girl” which later evolved to D.R.A.G. (Makes sense, right?)
Just because a man wears drag doesn’t necessarily make him a drag queen. Queens entertain more for their career or consistent hobby. It’s not just a one time thing. It’s who they are and they have that sassy ass “it” factor that is imperative.
They don’t all shave. Like have you ever seen a picture of Conchita Wurst? Drop dead gorgeous even with that stubble.
What they hate to hear…
“OMG! Can I touch your wig/ boobs/ anything on your person?” Umm… can I touch your boobs? Like excuse me… They’re not a piece of meat.
“You’re wearing too much make up.” That’s the point Honey. If they’re going to wear it, they want everyone to know it.
“Can you try to hit on my friend and see if he falls for it?” Apparently this is a common thing when queens are out and about looking extra fine. It’s not a game to see if your straight guy friend will unknowingly hit on a drag queen. Who the hell is that fun for?
“Can you be ready in ten minutes? We need you to go on.” Hahahahaha oh Baby… It’ll take ten minutes just to put on the lashes.
“So are you a man or a woman?” This is just plain ignorance. If that’s a genuine question, then you probably just shouldn’t say anything at all.
What queens can teach us…
Conforming to what others want you to be will end in you being nothing at all.
The world belongs to the confident.
If life's a stage, then why not be in the spotlight?
Fashion isn’t about practicality; it’s about making you feel sexy as fuck.
Artistry comes in all forms and there’s an audience who will appreciate every art form.
The importance of a good catch phrase.
Sexuality and gender are completely fluid.
Put the best you out there at all times…
Not the best version of who others want you to be.
It’s scarier to be a man in a business suit than a queen in a dress.
Never feel ashamed for feeling sexy.
You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
If you have the passion motivating you, then you can do anything.
Embracing the duality of masculinity and femininity which is in all of us.
How to see things from an artistically open perspective rather than a political or religious one.
How to create a glamorous outfit out of literally anything.
Don’t take yourself too seriously. None of us are going to make it out alive anyway.
